Auto: BMW E39 Pros: (1) Honesty: whether it's an inspection or a repair job, the EDGE guys will list everything that's wrong, to the point of over-inclusion of certain information. Don't be bothered by this, they are not trying to charge you more. Instead, they would simply rather you know more than decide unwarrantedly on your behalf what you should know or what you shouldn't worry about--like many mediocre shops tend to do. If faced with a list of repairs, you should definitely ask for priority in various jobs, unless you work on your own cars and know this priority already. (2) Professionalism: there are no surprise charges or miscommunication with them because they keep you constantly appraised of your repairs, providing you with a headache-free experience. They also somehow manage to masterfully walk the often elusive line between familiar cordiality and cold formality. EDGE proves that to love cars you don't have to be a part of the toxic "bro" culture. All EDGE staff, including Anthony and Andrei are nice guys who happen to know a lot about cars and racing. (3) Respectfulness: even from your first phone call, they are not condescending about your older car, which happened to me with one highly rated local shop. This is contextually important, given that as racers they work on the most expensive, fancy, and cutting-edge car parts and technologies. Their respectfulness is indicative of their genuine appreciation of BMW cars and classic cars in general. (4) Class: there were several times when EDGE just made a repair work, like thinking creatively to come up with a non-traditional modification to fit a certain part per my request, or on a different occasion--fabricating a new, custom part, without charging me extra. This type of dedication to their craft and customer care is what earned them 5 stars, if I had to pick one positive characteristic. Cons: (1) Cost: yes, they are expensive. Save money, suck it up, and remember that it's still cheaper than the stealership and with higher quality of work. TL;DR: best shop in South Bay and maybe even in the entire Bay Area.
